Road Trip

Bentley and Chico were excited to be going on a road trip yesterday! They were dancing around the house all morning - after I told them they would be going for a 'drive' - no idea at all as to where their destination would be.

Shortly after lunch Mom came out.  She was the designated 'doggy control person' so I could drive.
Here is chico settling in..
and Bentley waiting to take off...

Chico eventually curled up on Gramma's lap; Bentley eventually sat like a good boy in the back seat, he even had a little nap. So all was good!
We arrived at 2:00 pm - a good half hour before their scheduled appointment at the V.E.T.

I had told Bentley in the morning where we were going.  I knew he'd be good with the information.  He was, after all, only getting a vaccination.Bordatella.  Now we can go on a vacation and leave him with the dog sitter. He's good to go! And it's not like he got a needle. Now, they get this vaccination through their nose.

I didn't dare tell Chico where we were going.  She hates the V.E.T.  And I KNEW she would be less than thrilled if she knew why she was going and what the V.E.T. might need to do to her.

If  I say that the good doggy doctor diagnosed her with an abcess on her anal gland, do I need to say what transpired next? Suffice it to say that it was a good thing I had taken the muzzle along. It came in handy. Chico really would have like to have bitten the good doggy doctor's finger if it wouldn't have been where it was. Even I felt bad for my little shih-tzu. I was given the task of holding her head and trying to comfort her while the "exam" was going on. Poor little thing. Anyway, after she was 'cleaned up' back there in that part, and prescribed antibiotics and given her vaccination, I handed her to Mom who took her to the car while Bentley and I stayed in the office to pay. And therein comes the sweetest part of the road trip.

There was a little boy in the office, with his dad.  They had brought their horse, or maybe it was a cow, to the animal doctor. As soon as this very cute little boy saw Bentley he asked if he could pet him!  Of course he could! Bentley loved the little boy right away; I could see it in his eyes. The little boy sure thought Bentley was curly.  I told him that his dad was a poodle. He wanted to know about his mom. I said she was a golden retriever. Well, this little boy had a golden retriever too!! So now I was loved by this very sweet little boy!

I found out, during our conversation, that his birthday was in May and this past birthday he was able to invite 5 people to his party - up from the 4 invitees the year before.  I also found out that 2 of the girls weren't able to come to his party, even though 1 of them had been there the year before.
I found out that HIS golden retriever sometimes peed in the house. And, just as I was about to pay, he said, "did you notice that I had a wiggly tooth?"  It was his first tooth to be wiggly.

This sweet little boy turned 6 in May - and will be going to grade 1 in the fall.  His older brother has lost 4 teeth and HIS birthday is July 15th.

I found all this out in less than 5 minutes.  And then, just as Bentley and I were opening the door to leave, "Can I tell you 1 more thing?"
"Of course!" I replied.
"I scored 2 goals for my hockey team last winter."

So, we had a visit about hockey.  His favorite team is Pittsburgh and his favorite player - Sidney Crosby.

I'm still smiling when I think about this little person I met yesterday. I'm happy I took the time to talk to him and let him pet Bentley.

And that got me to thinking - how many people that I come in contact with during my lifetime, some even while on a 'road trip' will become a friend? How many people need a simple hello to make their day? How many lives can be brightened, even by a complete stranger, with a few kind words? My life was brightened by this ordained encounter with a sweet little boy while on a road trip!

  1. Poor Chico! :(

Little kids really do spill out all the family secrets, and more, don't they? Too cute! :)

    Have a wonderful weekend!
    Blessings,
