I'm glad we have 1 day of the year to honour father's. I'm blessed to have a dear husband who is a great father to our children. I hope they know how blessed they are.
He's always been a 'hands-on' dad. When DD and DS were babies My Sweetheart would get up in the middle of the night to tend to them when they were crying. That would have continued on until Darling Daughter was through the infancy stage had I not been caught. You see, I would be the first one to hear them start to whimper, and then I would sneak a peak at My Sweetheart- he would be sound asleep. I'd give his foot a little nudge - just enough for him to stir. He'd stir just enough to hear the baby whimpering and he'd look at me and see that I was "sound asleep". So, my tender hearted spouse would let me "sleep" while he got up in the middle of the night. When DD was about 9 months old I was caught. My Sweetheart, unbeknownst to me, was awake when the foot nudge came. I was finally caught! It worked through Dear Son's babyhood and most of Darling Daughter's babyhood.
My Sweetheart loves spending time with his children. He always has. They have wonderful memories of horsey-rides, campouts in the living room in the middle of winter, tenting in the basement, combine rides, water fights, movie nights. Great memories of growing up with their father.
He's teaching our son how to treat women with respect. He's modelling to our daughter what a godly husband is. He has set the bar high for her. Just like my dad did with me. My dad was a great dad. He honoured Mom. And he treasured each of us in his own, quiet, softspoken way. He set the standard for me as to the type of man I would want to marry. I'm glad he did. My Sweetheart is a gift to me. Both my Dad and My Sweetheart are great examples of a "father's love" - the kind of love lavished by my Heavenly Father.
While I treasure My Sweetheart every day, today I am glad to honour the man who is a great father to our children. Happy Father's Day Sweetheart!
