The All-Nighter?

When I was in college I pulled a few all-nighters. I hated doing that, but sometimes, due in part, due in BIG part, to procrastination, I did. And I suffered for it for a few days afterward. I need my sleep.  I needed my sleep back in my college days too, but I also had deadlines. And so, up I would stay. Propping my eyelids open, writing, typing, drinking coffee, yawning....Each time I pulled an all-nighter I was able to produce the elusive paper for class. I would walk around like a zombie for the rest of the day, but I had classes to attend, rehearsals  to be at and assignments to do - like it or not. But eventually the effects of the all-nighter would wear off and I'd be somewhat back to normal. And I would always tell myself to keep on top of those assignments, manage my time better, and so on and so on. Anything to not have to pull another all-nighter.

Tonight My Sweetheart has aspirations of pulling an all-nighter.  On the tractor. Trying to get as much seeding done as possible before the forecast rain. There is an 80% chance of rain on Wednesday. A smaller likelihood on Tues, and a small chance of rain on Thursday. He prepared, somewhat, for this potential all-nighter . Dear Son was in the tractor all day today, seeding.  And while he was doing that My Sweetheart was sleeping - in the sleeper of the semi. He was able to sleep for 5 hours. That's good.  At least I won't be worrying about him.  I would be worrying if he hadn't slept today.  And he promised me that if he started getting sleepy he would shut the unit down and come home.

I wish I wasn't such a worrier. I'm not supposed to worry.  It does no good. So instead, I will entrust My Sweetheart to the Lord's care. I pray, that if he does manage to pull off this all-nighter, that he will be kept awake and alert.  And I pray that he would have the sensibility to rest if his body needs to rest. Keep him safe, Lord - keep him safe....

  1. Heather, tonight is a short night for us, as we are still up getting Barry ready to fly out tomorrow morning (going to the airport at 0400). I usually end up lying in bed sleepless for at least a while before drifting off. I usually try to pray while I'm lying there, so tonight I will pray for Danny. And we will pray together for him when we get up again at 0300. God will keep him for you.

  2. Heather - I am tearing up as I am reading your post - thank you so much for your prayers for Danny. He didn't pull an all-nighter, but it was close. He did come home and had a few hours of sleep, but he was up around 4:30. Thank you again, not only for your prayers, but for your friendship!

  3. So glad to hear all is well! I will continue to pray through the day that you guys get all your seeding done before rain. It is beautifully sunny here, but really windy, so I can believe the weather is changing.
